Site preparation for construction
Site preparation is part of our earthworks services. We work with our excavator, backhoe loader, bulldozer and roller. The scope of work should follow the design and the site organisation plan. Before the quote, specify which parts of the plot need work, where the access road will be and how vehicles will move around the site. Not every plot needs the same scope.

Agree the tasks before work starts
Topsoil stripping, moving soil, building an access road or preparing an area for storing materials must be listed in the order. Also mark any work that will be done by other contractors.
Site preparation does not automatically include utility connections, surveying, tree felling or foundations. Each of these must be agreed separately.
Access and space for deliveries
A temporary access road should allow the planned vehicles to move even in poor weather. The choice of aggregate and layers depends on the ground and the load. The material and the compaction method must suit the needs of the plot.
Leave space for manoeuvring and unloading. Check that stored materials will not block the truck mixer or the pump position. We describe aggregates and concrete delivery on separate pages.
What should you send for a quote?
The location, the site plan, photos, a description of the ground and the expected scope. Tell us about underground services and any access restrictions. Agree how the topsoil and excavated soil will be stockpiled before work starts. We charge a fixed price per job for site preparation, so the price covers the tasks listed in the agreed scope.
Questions before you build
What does site preparation include?
The scope is set by the quote and what has been agreed, not just by the name of the service.
What material should the access road be made of?
The choice has to take the ground and the vehicles into account. Check an approved sub-base mix instead of choosing by name alone.
How long does site preparation take?
It depends on the scope, the weather and access to the site. The date has to be confirmed after the work has been assessed.
